Note: Our backup feature is currently not available for our Site Builder. If you need assistance with our site builder products, please contact our support team for further assistance. Your website must be hosted with us for this feature to be available. We do not offer backups for domain names with third-party hosted websites.

Bravenet now supports the ability to back up your website and database files directly from your account. We recommend routinely backing up your website, especially before making changes or updates to your website to ensure you have a working copy of the website files to revert to. Whether you are planning on taking regular backups to prevent future problems, or if something has already happened and you are looking to recover your files from a previous state, we will discuss how you can achieve this.

We now offer a backup plan that will allow you to download snapshots of your website and database files in your account that are recorded on a weekly and monthly basis. This will begin as soon as you purchase your plan and is available until your hosting ends for a small monthly fee (see our ‘Services Price List’ wiki for current pricing). This plan can offer invaluable recovery data for all your websites and databases hosted with Bravenet. Please see the ‘Registering for the Backup Plan’ section for further instructions on how to enable this useful feature.

While we recommend all members take regular backups of their website files, we completely understand that accidents and unexpected issues can happen. If you need a backup and do not currently have our Backup Plan, we offer an Emergency Access feature for a fee of $150 USD and lasts for 7 days. Our Emergency Backup Plan will allow access to snapshots from the past 2 months that we record on a weekly and monthly basis. Please see the ‘Emergency Access’ section for further instructions.

Registering for the Backup Plan

# Login to your Bravenet account.
# Visit the ‘Web Hosting’ tab in your account.
# Click ‘Manage’ next to your website.
# Click the ‘Backup/Export’ button found on this page.
# Under the Backup Plan heading, click ‘Purchase Backup Plan’.
# Your Backup Access plan will now be in your cart. Follow the prompts to check out.

Once you have completed your purchase, your backup plan will automatically be enabled and can be utilized by visiting the ‘Backup/Export’ button described in Step 3 above. Please see the ‘Downloading a Backup to your Computer’ section for further steps on how to download a backup.

Emergency Backup Access
Note: This feature is NOT applicable to those who already have our Backup Plan as you will already have access to your files for recovery. Your website will need to be hosted with us for at least 1 week for any snapshots to be available.

An important first step when recovering your website files from a backup is to determine when the problem started to occur. Knowing when the issue occurred with your website is helpful because you will need to find a snapshot from before this date. If you are unsure when exactly the issue occurred with your website, it can be helpful to recall the last time you remember your website working as intended. Please be aware that our Emergency Access feature will give you access to snapshots from the last 2 months. If the issue occurred with your website before the last 2 months, our Emergency Access will not have a snapshot before this timeframe.

Registering for Emergency Access

# Login to your Bravenet account.
# Visit the ‘Web Hosting’ tab in your account.
# Click ‘Manage’ next to your website.
# Click the ‘Backup/Export’ button found on this page.
# Under the Emergency Access heading, click ‘Purchase Emergency Access’.
# Your Backup Access plan will now be in your cart. Follow the prompts to check out.

Once you have completed your purchase, you will immediately have access to your emergency snapshots which can be explored by visiting the ‘Backup/Export’ button described in Step 4 above. You will have access to these snapshots for the next 7 days. Please see the ‘Downloading a Backup to your Computer’ for further steps on how to download a backup.

Downloading a Backup to your Computer
You will need to download the backup to your computer or external storage location in order to access your snapshot files. Please ensure you have plenty of adequate space on your computer or external storage location for the backup before downloading. All website snapshots can be downloaded in ZIP file format so you will need to extract the ZIP file on your computer to view the contents. Database snapshots are offered in SQL format which you can import to PhpMyAdmin in your Bravenet account.

Step 1: Locate your backup snapshots.

# Login to your Bravenet account.
# Visit the ‘Web Hosting’ tab in your account.
# Click ‘Manage’ next to your website.
# Click the ‘Backup/Export’ button found on this page.

You will now see all available snapshots under the ‘Available’ tab.

Step 2: Locate the correct type of snapshot.

All backup snapshots will list the date it was recorded under the ‘Date’ field and the type of snapshot under the ‘Type’ field. If you are looking for a website snapshot, these are listed as ‘monthly’ and ‘weekly’. If you are looking for a snapshot of your database files, these are listed as ‘Weekly SQL’ under the Type field. Once you have located the correct type of snapshot and the correct date, click ‘List Files’ next to the entry.

Step 3: Export and download your snapshot.

Click ‘Export’ next to the name of the website or database you are looking to recover. Depending on the size of the export, this may take a few minutes to process. Once this is processed, you will see your export listed under the ‘Downloads’ tab as a ZIP file or a SQL file. Click ‘Download’ next to your entry to download this to your computer, this may take some time to complete depending on the size of the backup.

Step 4: Restore your website or database from backup.

If you are restoring a database, please see ‘How to Backup and or Restore your MySQL Database Using phpMyAdmin’.

You can recover your website by uploading your files to your website through your SFTP account (see our SFTP article if you do not have an SFTP account yet). You can upload missing files or the entire backup folder to recover an entire website. Note you will want to select the option to ‘Replace’ existing files in your SFTP manager if you are looking to replace your existing website with the backup files.

FAQ
1) When should I back up my site?

Routine weekly or monthly backups are recommended. If you are altering any content on your website, updating plugins or extensions, or upgrading code it is especially important to obtain a backup beforehand to ensure you have a good working copy to revert to in case anything happens. Even if you do not plan on changing your website anytime soon, it is still important to back up your website as a security measure. Websites created with popular CMS builders such as WordPress can sometimes be vulnerable to hacks so always having a recent backup on hand can be useful to recover these types of websites. Signing up for our monthly backup plan allows you to access these snapshots for download at any time.

2) How often do you take snapshots of my website(s) / database(s)?

We take monthly and weekly backups of your website content and offer these for download in ZIP file format. We take weekly backups of your database in SQL format.

3) How can I tell if my website is covered by your backup plan?

If your website is managed under the ‘Web Hosting’ tab in your Bravenet account, this is a good indication that your website is eligible for our backup plan. Websites that you manage through your SFTP account, the Bravenet File Manager, or WordPress admin can all be backed up.

If your website was created with our drag-and-drop website builder, it is not eligible for our backup plan. Our website builder websites are managed through the ‘Site Builder’ tab in your account. Additionally, if you have your domain name with us, but your website is hosted with a third-party company, we are not able to back up these websites. If you are unsure if your website is eligible for our backup plan, please reach out to our support team at any time.

E-mail is short for electronic mail and is a method of transferring data or information via electronic communication systems through sending and receiving.

Once you have finished Creating a new e-mail account, you can check it in a variety of ways:

Webmail
You can access your e-mail through our webmail system at https://bravenetmail.com. When prompted, just enter your e-mail address and the password associated with that address. If you forget your e-mail password, you can reset it in the e-mail tab of your Bravenet account.

General Settings
The exact steps to set up your email client differ based on the client. In general you will need the following information. This assumes that you've created a Bravenet email address in the email tab of your account already. Below we have the recommended settings, we highly recommend you use SSL encryption, and the IMAP protocol, when available.

Notes
Email accounts have a default quota of 100 emails per hour, to prevent email accounts from being abused for unsolicited bulk email (spam), email mailing lists, and other such massive email usage that - if legitimate - should be performed through our Mailing List Service instead. Bravenet personal email accounts are intended only for personal email use. The 100/hour quota resets hourly, so someone could send 70 emails at once, wait an hour, and then send 70 more; but they could not send 70 emails and then immediately send another bulk mail to 70 other individuals, as that would be 140 within an hour. They would have to send less than 30, or wait an hour to send more.

Likewise, each (individual) email account has a maximum storage allocation of 2 gigabytes, though users can create multiple separate email accounts each with 2 GB of storage.
POP3 is an older method of checking mail. It should only be used if your e-mail client doesn't support IMAP, since POP3 doesn't support checking mail from multiple locations, and by default it doesn't store messages on the server.

To clarify: We do NOT recommend using POP3, and in fact recommend switching to use IMAP in every situation if at all possible.

Alternative Configuration (Recommended):

* POP3 Server: mail.bravehost.com
* POP3 Port: 110
* Connection Security: TLS/StartTLS
* Username: The email address you are checking, e.g. example@somesite.com
* Password: The password for this specific email account.

Alternative Configuration:

* POP3 Server: mail.bravehost.com
* POP3 Port: 995
* Connection Security: SSL
* Username: The email address you are checking, e.g. example@somesite.com
* Password: The password for this specific email account.

Outgoing Mail Servers
Outgoing mail uses SMTP. The information you need for that:

Alternative Configuration:

* SMTP server: mail.bravehost.com
* SMTP port: 465
* Connection Security: SSL
* Username: The email address you are checking, e.g. example@somesite.com
* Password: The password for this specific email account.
* This outgoing mail server does require authentication (this is an option in some email clients, which must be checked).

Email Filter Management
Email Filters can be managed by logging into webmail.bravehost.com, as well as software that supports managesieve.

Most email setups will not need this, but it is an optional possibility for you to use it, if you want to.

* ManageSieve Filter: mail.bravehost.com
* ManageSieve Port: 4190

Ncoulson: /* Train your filter */

Once the floodgates to spam are opened, it is very difficult to close the gate. However, there are a few tips and tricks that you can use to reduce the spam enough that it is no longer taking over your inbox.

Train your filter
While we do offer spam protection for our hosting email customers, and subscribe to a number of blacklists which block spam, it is difficult to prevent all spam email. Especially without causing legitimate email from being delivered.

When spam enters your inbox, don't immediately delete it. Select it. Tell your mail client that this message is spam. How you do this depends on your client. For instance, if you’re using our Webmail client, click the Junk button in the toolbar (the icon looks like an recycle logo within a folder icon). If you are using your own email client such as Outlook, AppleMail, or Thunderbird, you can simply drag messages into the "Junk" folder to report it as spam.

The more you do this, the more the system will learn what is and isn't junk and cut down the unsolicited emails you receive. If you change your mind and want to get an email back out of junk you can simply go into the 'Junk E-Mail' folder and drag your email back into your 'Inbox'.

Never Respond to Spam
If you recognize a message as spam, don't open it. If you do happen to open it. Close it. Do not click a button or any links within the message. Do not download any files that are attached to any message you even remotely suspect as spam.

Opening spam because it appeared to be coming from a friend or someone you know, contact them immediately and let them know that their account has been compromised and they should look into it immediately.

Keep that email address hidden
The more people that have your email address, the more spam you will receive. So please, please, keep your address close and only give it to those you trust.

Never. Never publish it on the web unless you must. And if you have to, use a different email address for that purpose.

Disposable email addresses are great for when you aren't comfortable sharing your real one. Mailinator for example is a good place to grab disposable emails addresses.

Use Third-Party Spam Filters
Most of the major security suites come with an anti-spam filter that can assist the one used on your local client. In other words, it will work in email clients such as Microsoft's Outlook or Mozilla's Thunderbird, but not Outlook.com.

Additionally, our Webmail client, does provide the server-side use of the Sieve mail filtering language. There are a number of Sieve scripts available on the web, and it's simple to extend and create new Sieve scripts with a bit of research. Sieve could be used to block or reject unsolicited emails with recurring patterns, at the users discretion.

You can find out more about Sieve here:
http://sieve.info/

For additional filtering you would need to use third party spam filtering such as that provided within a different mail client, or a tool like Spamhero or Spamilator.

We also recommend reporting spam to SpamCop:
https://www.spamcop.net/anonsignup.shtml

Reports through SpamCop notify all service providers which are involved in delivering the email, and the companies which host any links placed in the email body.

Failure for companies to heed SpamCop warnings can be blacklisted, and their emails blocked from reaching their destinations.

If you receive a number of spam emails from the exact same email address, or spamming the same website address, and if you are familiar with using our webmail client, you can also use our Email Filtering to block the email.

Change Your Email Address
This is a very drastic option, but if you've responded to the spam in the past, or haven't hidden your email address, you are more than likely overloaded with spam. This may be your best option.

Changing your email address will require that you contact your legitimate contacts about the change of address, and you will probably have to keep the compromised address for a short period. But once you are able to get rid of the old email address, the sheer number of spam emails you receive will plummet.

If you have any further questions or concerns relating to spam/junk email, please open a support ticket.

You can also use most third-party e-mail clients to send and receive mail. We've provided step-by-step instructions for a few common clients. For other e-mail clients, use the general information below, and refer to your e-mail client's documentation for information on how to enter this data.

By default, as of March 26, 2014, new email accounts require SSL or TLS/STARTTLS to be enabled in your email client. Under the email tab of your Bravenet account, it will say by the newly created email address. This encrypts your communication with our servers (including the username and password). Attempting to login to your email account without SSL or TLS/STARTTLS, and non-SSL logins not enabled will result in an Authentication Failed message. Please note this does not affect Webmail.

If you wish to allow email clients that do not support encryption, you can enable non-SSL logins. Note that this sends your username and password unencrypted, and could lead to your email credentials being stolen.
* Login to your Bravenet account
* Click on the email tab
* Find your email account, and click
After you do so, it will say which indicates that you can login to that email address without using SSL.

General Settings
The exact steps to set up your email client differ based on the client. In general you will need the following information. This assumes that you've created a Bravenet email address in the email tab of your account already.

Incoming Mail Servers
IMAP
Secure Configuration (Recommended):

* IMAP Server: mail.bravehost.com
* IMAP Port: 143
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure)
** If you wish to use email unencrypted (unsecure), you will need to allow non-SSL Logins
* Username: the email address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.

Alternative Configuration:

* IMAP Server: mail.bravehost.com, or you can use mail.yourdomain.com where yourdomain.com is the domain of your Bravenet email address.
* IMAP Port: 993
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.
* Authentication Type: Password

POP3
POP3 is an older method of checking mail. It should only be used if your e-mail client doesn't support IMAP, since POP3 doesn't support checking mail from multiple locations, and by default it doesn't store messages on the server.

Secure Configuration (Recommended):
* POP3 Server: mail.bravehost.com
* POP3 Port: 110
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure)
** If you wish to use email unencrypted (unsecure), you will need to allow non-SSL Logins
* Username: the email address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.

Alternative Configuration:

* POP3 Server: mail.bravehost.com, or you can use mail.yourdomain.com where yourdomain.com is the domain of your Bravenet email address.
* POP3 Port: 995
* Connection Security: SSL
* Username: the email address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.

Outgoing Mail Servers
Outgoing mail uses SMTP. The information you need for that:

Secure Configuration (Recommended):

* SMTP server: mail.bravehost.com
* SMTP port: 587
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure),
** If you wish to use email unencrypted (unsecure), you will need to allow non-SSL Logins
* Username: the e-mail address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.
* This outgoing mail server requires authentication

Webmail
You can access your e-mail through our webmail system at https://webmail.bravehost.com. When prompted, just enter your e-mail address and the password associated with that address. If you forget your e-mail password, you can reset it in the e-mail tab of your Bravenet account.
By default, as of March 26, 2014, new email accounts require SSL or TLS/STARTTLS to be enabled in your email client. Under the email tab of your Bravenet account, it will say by the newly created email address. This encrypts your communication with our servers (including the username and password).

E-mail is short for electronic mail and is a method of transferring data or information via electronic communication systems through sending and receiving.

Once you have finished Creating a new e-mail account, you can check it in a variety of ways:

Webmail
You can access your e-mail through our webmail system at https://webmail.bravehost.com. When prompted, just enter your e-mail address and the password associated with that address. If you forget your e-mail password, you can reset it in the e-mail tab of your Bravenet account.

Instructional Videos
You can find some instructional videos on how to setup your Bravenet email account with a few email clients here:

Setting up Bravenet Email on:

3rd Party E-mail Clients
You can also use most third-party e-mail clients to send and receive mail. We've provided step-by-step instructions for a few common clients. For other e-mail clients, use the general information below, and refer to your e-mail client's documentation for information on how to enter this data.

*Apple Mail
*Microsoft Outlook 2007
*Microsoft Outlook 2013
*Outlook Express
*Configuring your iPhone with e-mail
*Android email

* IMAP Server: mail.bravehost.com
* IMAP Port: 143
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure)

* IMAP Port: 993
* Connection Security: SSL
* Username: the email address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.
* Authentication Type: Password

POP3
POP3 is an older method of checking mail. It should only be used if your e-mail client doesn't support IMAP, since POP3 doesn't support checking mail from multiple locations, and by default it doesn't store messages on the server.

Secure Configuration (Recommended):
* POP3 Server: mail.bravehost.com
* POP3 Port: 110
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure)

* POP3 Port: 995
* Connection Security: SSL
* Username: the email address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.

Outgoing Mail Servers
Outgoing mail uses SMTP. The information you need for that:

Secure Configuration (Recommended):

* SMTP server: mail.bravehost.com
* SMTP port: 587 (You may also be able to use port 25, but this is blocked by most Internet Providers)
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure),
** If you wish to use email unencrypted (unsecure), you will need to allow non-SSL Logins
* Username: the e-mail address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.
* This outgoing mail server requires authentication

Alternative Configuration:

* SMTP server: mail.bravehost.com, or you can use mail.yourdomain.com where yourdomain.com is the domain of your Bravenet email address.
* SMTP port: 465
* Connection Security: SSL
* Username: the e-mail address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.
* This outgoing mail server requires authentication

Email Filter Management
Email Filters can be managed by logging into webmail.bravehost.com. They can also be managed through managesieve clients as well.

Most email setups will not need this.

* ManageSieve Filter: mail.bravehost.com
* ManageSieve Port: 4190
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure)
* IMAP Port: 143
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure)

* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.
* Authentication Type: Password

POP3
POP3 is an older method of checking mail. It should only be used if your e-mail client doesn't support IMAP, since POP3 doesn't support checking mail from multiple locations, and by default it doesn't store messages on the server.

Secure Configuration (Recommended):
* POP3 Server: mail.bravehost.com
* POP3 Port: 110
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure)

* POP3 Port: 995
* Connection Security: SSL
* Username: the email address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.

Outgoing Mail Servers
Outgoing mail uses SMTP. The information you need for that:

Secure Configuration (Recommended):

* SMTP server: mail.bravehost.com
* SMTP port: 587 (You may also be able to use port 25, but this is blocked by most Internet Providers)
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure),
** If you wish to use email unencrypted (unsecure), you will need to allow non-SSL Logins

* SMTP port: 465
* Connection Security: SSL
* Username: the e-mail address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.
* This outgoing mail server requires authentication

Email Filter Management
You can manage your email filters by logging into webmail.bravehost.com. We also allow you to manage them through managesieve clients.

Most email setups will not need this.

* ManageSieve Filter: mail.bravehost.com
* ManageSieve Port: 4190
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure)
* Username: the e-mail address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.

This is not needed for most users.

Ncoulson:

Once you have finished Creating a new e-mail account, you can check it in a variety of ways:

Webmail
You can access your e-mail through our webmail system at https://webmail.bravehost.com. When prompted, just enter your e-mail address and the password associated with that address. If you forget your e-mail password, you can reset it in the e-mail tab of your Bravenet account.

3rd Party E-mail Clients
You can also use most third-party e-mail clients to send and receive mail. We've provided step-by-step instructions for a few common clients. For other e-mail clients, use the general information below, and refer to your e-mail client's documentation for information on how to enter this data.

*Apple Mail
*Microsoft Outlook
*Outlook Express
*Thunderbird
*Windows Live Mail
*Configuring your iPhone with e-mail

* IMAP Server: mail.bravehost.com
* IMAP Port: 143
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure)

* IMAP Port: 993
* Connection Security: SSL
* Username: the email address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.
* Authentication Type: Password

POP3
POP3 is an older method of checking mail. It should only be used if your e-mail client doesn't support IMAP, since POP3 doesn't support checking mail from multiple locations, and by default it doesn't store messages on the server.

Secure Configuration (Recommended):
* POP3 Server: mail.bravehost.com
* POP3 Port: 110
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure)

* POP3 Port: 995
* Connection Security: SSL
* Username: the email address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.

Outgoing Mail Servers
Outgoing mail uses SMTP. The information you need for that:

Secure Configuration (Recommended):

* SMTP server: mail.bravehost.com
* SMTP port: 587 (You may also be able to use port 25, but this is blocked by most Internet Providers)
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure),
** If you wish to use email unencrypted (unsecure), you will need to allow non-SSL Logins

* SMTP port: 465
* Connection Security: SSL
* Username: the e-mail address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.
* This outgoing mail server requires authentication

Once you have finished Creating a new e-mail account, you can check it in a variety of ways:

Webmail
You can access your e-mail through our webmail system at https://webmail.bravehost.com. When prompted, just enter your e-mail address and the password associated with that address. If you forget your e-mail password, you can reset it in the e-mail tab of your Bravenet account.

3rd Party E-mail Clients
You can also use most third-party e-mail clients to send and receive mail. We've provided step-by-step instructions for a few common clients. For other e-mail clients, use the general information directly below, and refer to your e-mail client's documentation for information on how to enter this data.

*Outlook Express
*Thunderbird
*Windows Live Mail
*Configuring your iPhone with e-mail

General Settings
The exact steps to set up your email client differ based on the client. In general you will need the following information. This assumes that you've created a Bravenet email address in the email tab of your account already.

By default, as of March 26, 2014. New email accounts require SSL or TLS/STARTTLS to be enabled. This encrypts your communication with our servers (Including the username and password). Attempting to login without SSL or TLS/STARTTLS, and non-SSL logins are not enabled will result in a Authentication Failed message

If you wish to allow email clients that do not support encryption, you can enable non-SSL logins. Note that this sends your username and password unencrypted, and could lead to your email credentials being stolen.
* Click on the email tab
* Find your email account, and click enable SSL/non-SSL

Incoming Mail Servers
IMAP
Secure Configuration (Recommended):

* IMAP Server: mail.bravehost.com
* IMAP Port: 143
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure)

* IMAP Port: 993
* Connection Security: SSL
* Username: the email address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.
* Authentication Type: Password

POP3
POP3 is an older method of checking mail. It should only be used if your e-mail client doesn't support IMAP, since POP3 doesn't support checking mail from multiple locations, and by default it doesn't store messages on the server.

Secure Configuration (Recommended):
* POP3 Server: mail.bravehost.com
* POP3 Port: 110
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure)

* SMTP server: mail.bravehost.com
* SMTP port: 587 (You may also be able to use port 25, but this is blocked by most Internet Providers)
* Connection Security: TLS/STARTTLS (secure),
** If you wish to use email unencrypted (unsecure), you will need to allow non-SSL Logins

Moodle is a Course Management System (CMS), also known as a Learning Management System (LMS) or a Virtual Learing Environment (VLE). It is a free web applications that educators can use to create effective online learning sites

Moodle requires a few tweaks to your account before you can install it:

Changing your database language settings
Next, Moodle requires its database tables to be created with UTF-8 support. To do this:
# create a new database, as normal, and then click on the Edit Tables icon next to it.
# in this new window, click the name of the database in the left column (next to the line that says information_schema)
# now, click the Operations tab at the top
# One of the boxes will be labelled Collation:. Scroll through this list and find the option named utf8_general_ci. Select this and click the Go button.
# You should see a notice at the top of the screen that says that Your SQL query has been executed successfully.
# Close this window, and continue with the Moodle install.

Setting your Data Directory
When setting up a data directory, Moodle will want a path outside the web server's root. Unfortunately with our shared hosting, we don't offer that; but we can achieve the same result in a few steps. Basically, you want to create a new site to hold the Moodle data, but then disable it so that the web server can't access it.
# Log into your Bravenet account, and then click the 'FTP Hosting' tab and then the 'websites' subtab.
# Click on 'build a new website'
# Choose your site's domain out of the dropdown, and enter 'data' as the subdomain name, and then create the site.
# Click the 'disable this website' button

*Microsoft Outlook
*Outlook Express
*Thunderbird
*Windows Live Mail
*Configuring your iPhone with e-mail

General Settings
The exact steps to set up your email client differ based on the client. In general you will need the following information. This assumes that you've created a Bravenet email address in the email tab of your account already.

Incoming Mail Servers
IMAP
Secure Configuration (Recommended):

* IMAP Server: mail.bravehost.com
* IMAP Port: 143
* Connection Security: STARTTLS (secure), but None (Unencrypted) is also available

* IMAP Port: 993
* Connection Security: SSL/TLS
* Username: the email address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.
* Authentication Type: Password

POP3
POP3 is an older method of checking mail. It should only be used if your e-mail client doesn't support IMAP, since POP3 doesn't support checking mail from multiple locations, and by default it doesn't store messages on the server.

Secure Configuration (Recommended):
* POP3 Server: mail.bravehost.com
* POP3 Port: 110
* Connection Security: STARTTLS (secure), but None (Unencrypted) is also available.

* POP3 Port: 995
* Connection Security: SSL/TLS
* Username: the email address you are checking
* Password: the password for this address. You can change this in the email tab of your Bravenet account.

Outgoing Mail Servers
Outgoing mail uses SMTP. The information you need for that:

Secure Configuration (Recommended):

* SMTP server: mail.bravehost.com
* SMTP port: 587 (You may also be able to use port 25, but this is blocked by most Internet Providers)
* Connection Security: STARTTLS (Encrypted), but None (Unencrypted) is also available
When this information has been entered, tap "Save" again to complete configuration! Your phone may take a moment to verify this information and make an initial connection to the mail servers. If this is a brand new e-mail address, please allow some extra time for the connection to be made.
