Updating domain contact information

Unfortunately, you cannot edit an existing domain contact. You have to create a new domain contact from scratch and then assign it to your domain.

To create a new Domain Contact:

  1. Log into your Bravenet account.
  2. Click on the Domains tab.
  3. Click Domain Contacts.
  4. Click New Domain Contact.
  5. Enter information and click the Create button.

In an effort to maintain valid records and avert fraudulent activity, ICANN has implemented a policy which came into effect on the 1st of December 2016 which states that a confirmation is required for such changes by clicking on a link that gets sent in an automated email to the old and new registrant email addresses. Both parties must approve the changes before we can submit the new record to the registry. However, if the email address did not change, you will receive both emails to your current email account requesting confirmation.

Once you have approved this domain contact change at both the new and old registrant email addresses, please allow 30 minutes for this change to process.

Cleaning Up Old Domain Contacts

After updating your domain contact information, you may notice that older or unused contacts remain in your account. While these contacts do not affect your domains once they are no longer assigned, we recommend cleaning them up to keep your contact list organized.

When to Remove Old Contacts

Once a domain contact change is completed and fully processed, you can safely remove any contacts you no longer need. Please note, domain contact updates may take up to 30 minutes for our registrar to process, so please allow time for the change to complete before deleting any contacts (if you attempt to before this has processed, you may see a notice that the old contact is still in use).

Before Deleting a Domain Contact

Before removing a domain contact, make sure it is not assigned to any other domains:

  1. Go to the Domains tab in your Bravenet account.
  2. Click Manage next to each domain.
  3. Confirm that the domain is using the correct contact information.
  4. Update the contact if needed before proceeding.

How to Delete a Domain Contact

Once you have confirmed the contact is no longer in use:

  1. Go to Domains.
  2. Click Domain Contacts.
  3. Locate the contact you wish to remove.
  4. Delete the contact from the list.

Removing unused contacts helps keep your account organized and ensures you can easily identify the correct contact information for each domain.
